Matthew Flinders ‘Bring Him Home’ – AV Xpert Professional Live Streaming
Posted by Tom Brown on 09/01/2025
On 13th July 2024, the historic re-burial of Captain Matthew Flinders, the navigator and cartographer who first circumnavigated mainland Australia, took place in his home of Donington, Lincolnshire. The event brought together a community of over 1200 guests to honour his legacy.
To expand the reach of this occasion, AV Xpert provided a comprehensive live streaming service, allowing remote audiences to be a part of the event.
Overview
Captain Matthew Flinders, a Royal Navy Officer renowned for his groundbreaking charting of Australia’s coastline, passed away in 1814. His burial site was lost for nearly two centuries before his remains were discovered in 2019 near London Euston railway station. This resulted in the formation of the Matthew Flinders Bring Him Home (MFBHH) group, a dedicated volunteer organisation committed to returning his remains to Donington for a final reinterment.
The re-burial service, held at St. Mary’s and the Holy Rood Church, was a significant occasion for the local community in Donington. The event included a procession of Flinders’ coffin and a church service and burial, followed by a ceremony and presentations in an outdoor marquee. It was both a celebration of Flinders’ achievements and a poignant moment of closure for those honouring his memory.
AV Xpert Professional Live Streaming Service
To ensure the event reached a wider audience, AV Xpert provided our professional live streaming expertise. We employed high-quality cameras, advanced sound systems, and high-quality production equipment, to deliver a seamless broadcast of the occasion.
Our setup included our small portable production station, designed to integrate all streaming and recording components into one compact system. Inputs from cameras and microphones were connected to a high-performance PC, while HDMI outputs provided external displays for on-site attendees. Our system also featured digital smart mixing to synchronise audio inputs from professional-grade microphones with outputs to local speakers.
Multi-Camera Setup
We provided a 4K multi-camera setup to provide comprehensive coverage of the event throughout the day. Two Avonic PTZ cameras mounted on jib arms offered fixed-angle shots within the church, capturing the important moments of the service and burial.
Additionally, a Blackmagic Camera was used as a roving camera with a DJI Gimbal and wireless link back to our production station, delivering handheld footage of the coffin procession from outside the church, along with marquee presentations, and key interactions throughout the day. This multi-camera approach ensured we had all the important moments covered throughout the day, providing a high-quality broadcast to the remote viewers.
High-Quality Audio
AV Xpert understand that audio quality is an important aspect of any live-streamed event. Our setup included Audio-Technica wireless handheld microphones and Cardioid Condenser Lavalier microphones, seamlessly integrated into the sound system for clear audio transmission. This attention to detail ensured that remote viewers could hear every word spoken during the service and presentations.
Dedicated Support
From the initial consultation to the final production, AV Xpert provided a dedicated event planner, who worked closely with the MFBHH group to tailor the AV setup to their specific needs.
On the day, our experienced AV technicians managed the setup and operation of the equipment, and we also provided two on-site technicians to oversee proceedings and operate all the equipment, ensuring everything ran smoothly. This attention to detail and dedicated support highlights our commitment to delivering high-quality live event production services.
