Cookie Policy

This policy explains how AV Xpert Limited uses cookies and similar technologies on our website, and how you can control your preferences.

Cookie Policy

1. What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files and similar technologies that may be stored on your device when you visit a website. They are commonly used to help websites function properly, remember preferences, understand how visitors use a site and support marketing activity.

Where this policy refers to cookies, it also covers similar technologies that store or read information on your device, including browser local storage and tracking pixels.

2. How we use cookies

We use cookies and similar technologies to help our website operate, understand how it is used, improve performance and, where you have given consent, support analytics and advertising activity.

Some cookies are set by us, while others may be set by trusted third-party services we use.

3. Our cookie categories

We use the following categories of cookies and similar technologies on our website.

Strictly Necessary: These are required for core website functionality, security, network management and similar essential purposes. They include the record of the cookie choice you have made and, on our hire shop, the cookies that keep your basket and your signed-in session working. These do not require consent where they are genuinely necessary for the service you request.

Analytics: These help us understand how visitors use our website, so we can measure performance and improve content, navigation and user experience. We use Google Analytics 4, typically deployed via Google Tag Manager, for this purpose. These cookies and technologies are only used where you have given consent.

Advertising and Remarketing: These support follow-up advertising and remarketing through Google and Meta services, and help us measure how our advertising performs. We use the Meta pixel, provided by Meta Platforms Ireland Limited, and we may use Google Ads remarketing technologies. These cookies and technologies are only used where you have given consent.

4. The cookies we use

The list below covers the cookies and similar technologies used on this website. Durations are set by the provider and may change.

Strictly necessary

  • PHPSESSID, set by AV Xpert. Keeps your session active as you move between pages, including your logged-in state. Expires when you close your browser.
  • basket_token, set by AV Xpert on the hire shop only. Identifies your basket so its contents are still there when you return. Expires after 30 days.
  • avx_cookie_consent_v2, set by AV Xpert. Stores the cookie choice you made, so we do not ask again on every page. Held in browser local storage rather than as a cookie. Expires after 180 days.

Analytics, used only with your consent

  • _ga, set by Google. Distinguishes one visitor from another for Google Analytics. Expires after up to 2 years.
  • _ga_ followed by our property identifier, set by Google. Holds the Google Analytics session state. Expires after up to 2 years.

Advertising and remarketing, used only with your consent

  • _gcl_au, set by Google. Used by Google Ads to measure advertising performance and attribute conversions. Expires after 90 days.
  • _fbp, set by Meta. Identifies your browser so Meta can measure our advertising and show relevant advertising. Expires after 90 days.
  • _fbc, set by Meta. Stores the advertising click identifier from a Meta advertisement you followed to our site. Expires after 90 days.

Third-party services we embed may set further cookies of their own when you use those features. Those are governed by the provider’s own cookie and privacy policies, and are described in the next section.

5. Third-party services we embed

When you pay for a hire, the payment is handled by our payment provider. That provider may set cookies of its own that are strictly necessary to process the transaction securely and to guard against fraud.

We also load fonts, icons and similar shared website resources from content delivery networks. These are used to display the site correctly and do not set cookies for analytics or advertising.

If we introduce further tools that use cookies or similar technologies that are not strictly necessary, they will only operate where you have given consent, and this policy will be updated to describe them.

6. How consent works on our website

When you first visit our website, a banner asks what we may use. There are three options: Accept all, Choose preferences and Reject non-essential.

Accept all enables the analytics, advertising and remarketing technologies described above.

Reject non-essential loads none of them. Only the strictly necessary items listed above are used.

Choose preferences lets you decide category by category. You can allow analytics without allowing advertising, or the other way round. Strictly necessary cookies cannot be switched off, because the website cannot work without them.

Nothing optional is switched on for you in advance. The category boxes start unticked and stay unticked unless you tick them yourself.

Your choice is stored in your browser for 180 days, after which we will ask again. If you clear your browser storage, we will also ask again on your next visit.

We do not treat continued browsing, scrolling or closing the banner as consent. Nothing optional loads until you actively choose.

If we make a material change to how we use cookies, for example adding a new advertising provider, we will ask you again even if you have chosen before. A choice made against an older version of this policy is not carried over.

7. Google Tag Manager and consent settings

We use Google Tag Manager to help manage certain website tags and integrations. Google Tag Manager does not itself store the same category of analytics or advertising data as those downstream services, but it is used to control when tags are activated based on your consent preferences.

The Meta pixel does not read Google’s consent signals. It is controlled separately and directly by the choice you make in our cookie banner, and it is not requested from Meta at all until you have accepted non-essential cookies.

8. How to manage or withdraw your preferences

You can change your choice at any time. Select Cookie preferences at the bottom of any page on this website, or use this link: Cookie preferences. The banner will reopen and show you the choice currently in force.

Selecting Choose preferences reopens the categories with your current settings, so you can switch a single category on or off without disturbing the rest.

Withdrawing consent is as straightforward as giving it. When you switch a category off, we remove the cookies it set from your browser and reload the page, so nothing optional is left running. Those technologies will not load on future visits unless you choose to allow them again.

Withdrawing consent stops any further collection. It does not undo collection that already took place while your consent was in force. If you would like information that has already been collected to be erased, please contact us at info@avxpert.co.uk, and see the Your rights section of our Privacy Policy.

You can also control or delete cookies through your browser settings. Please note that disabling some cookies may affect how parts of the website function, including your basket and your account login.

9. Cookies and transfers outside the UK

Some of the providers named in this policy are based outside the United Kingdom, or transfer information to systems outside the United Kingdom, including to the United States. Where you accept non-essential cookies, information collected by those technologies may be transferred on that basis.

The Transfers of personal information outside the UK section of our Privacy Policy explains the safeguards we rely on.

10. More information

For more information about how we collect, use and protect personal information, please see our Privacy Policy.

If you have any questions about our use of cookies or similar technologies, please contact us at info@avxpert.co.uk.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes to our website, technologies, legal obligations or the way we use cookies and similar technologies. Any updates will be published on this page, and the date at the top of the page will be revised.
