Product Highlight Series – Allen & Heath AHM Series
Posted by Tom Brown on 24/02/2026

Designed for modern AV environments, the Allen & Heath AHM series gives integrators the freedom to build bespoke, scalable audio systems without unnecessary complexity. In this blog, we’ll explore what the AHM series is, the benefits it offers, and how we’ve successfully deployed it in real-world environments.
What is the Allen & Heath AHM?
The Allen & Heath AHM range is a series of audio matrix processors, available in three sizes: the AHM-64, AHM-32 and AHM-16. They are designed to route, mix and distribute multiple input signals (such as microphones or media players) to multiple output destinations simultaneously.
In simple terms, the AHM acts as the central control system for audio, receiving sound from different sources and sending it to the right places, at the right levels. That might mean background music in one room, a microphone announcement in another, and quieter audio in shared spaces like hallways, all happening smoothly at the same time.
The AHM has a modular and scalable design. Systems can be built to suit anything from a small meeting room to a full campus or venue-wide installation. Integrators can start with exactly what’s required today, with the confidence that the system can be scaled-up later if it is required.
Rather than a one-size-fits-all solution, the AHM allows you to build a custom setup around each client’s requirements. That flexibility makes it ideal for managing complex audio setups and tailoring it to the needs of the client.
The AHM is suitable for corporate, retail, hospitality and education environments. It can be used for both small-scale and large-scale setups, as required.
Multi-Zone Audio
One of the standout aspects of the AHM is its ability to manage complex multi-zone audio systems. In environments where different areas require different audio content, the AHM allows each zone to operate independently while remaining part of a single, unified system. Each zone can have its own volume control, source selection, and audio processing, providing a high level of flexibility.
User Control
Another important feature of the AHM platform is how it’s controlled. Rather than relying on complex menus or technical interfaces, the AHM can be paired with simple wall control panels, touchscreens control panels, or tablets. This allows users to interact with the system using simple buttons, sliders, and clearly labelled controls.
At AV Xpert, we take this a step further by designing bespoke UI and UX interfaces tailored to each client’s workflow and featuring our client’s branding. The result is a system that’s powerful behind the scenes, but intuitive and straightforward to use on a daily basis.
Scalability
Buildings and business requirements change over time, and the AHM is designed with that in mind. It can be expanded to handle more inputs, more zones, or new control options as needed. This makes it a future-proof investment, rather than something that needs replacing when requirements evolve.
AV Xpert Case Study: Peterborough United PA System Installation
A strong example of the AHM in a real-world environment is our recent installation at Peterborough United Football Club.
AV Xpert was commissioned to deliver a new concert-level PA system capable of providing exceptional clarity and even coverage throughout the stadium. To manage and control the various audio sources, an Allen & Heath AHM was selected for its flexibility, reliability, and suitability for live sound environments. The system integrates the club’s entertainment playback, a long-range wireless microphone providing full pitch coverage, and external inputs for pitch-side DJs or live performers. Each source can be independently controlled and routed to individual zones, including all four stands and the external concourse areas.
Two emergency paging microphones were also integrated into the system. These are configured with priority override functionality, ensuring that any live announcement automatically mutes active music sources and is broadcast clearly across all zones.
Our commissioning team designed a bespoke 10-inch touchscreen control panel for the main press box and a 7-inch panel for the matchday control centre. Each features a custom graphical user interface tailored to the club’s operational requirements, allowing operators to adjust volume levels and manage sources quickly and confidently. The interface was designed for intuitive day-to-day use while still providing advanced control where required.
The result is a powerful yet controlled stadium audio system that delivers clear, impactful sound on matchdays while remaining straightforward and reliable for operators.
Summary
The Allen & Heath AHM series offers an advanced solution for modern audio installations. Its scalability, multi-zone capabilities, and intuitive control options make it suitable for a range of scenarios, from small commercial spaces to large-scale venues.
At AV Xpert, we have used AHM on a number of installations, allowing us to build bespoke audio systems tailored to the needs of our clients. If you’re looking to upgrade the audio for your business, get in contact with us today to find out how we can help you.
