AV Xpert Install PA System at Peterborough United Football Club
Posted by Tom Brown on 27/11/2025

We are proud to officially announce that we have entered into a three-year partnership with Peterborough United FC, which began at the start of this season. As part of this mutually beneficial collaboration, we have now completed the installation of a brand-new public address (PA) system at their home stadium, dramatically enhancing audio quality and improving the matchday experience for fans.
Overview
Peterborough United FC, affectionately known as ‘The Posh’, is a local professional football club who currently compete in League One. The club aimed to upgrade the audio system in their 15,000-seater stadium to improve announcements, deliver high-quality music reproduction, and enhance the atmosphere on matchdays.
With this upgrade, Peterborough United aimed to create a more immersive and engaging experience for fans, ensuring every announcement and piece of music can be heard loud and clear on matchdays. They also wanted a system versatile enough to support other live events, such as concerts and alternative sporting occasions, allowing them to diversify their stadium offering.
The Project
For this project, AV Xpert installed a brand-new, concert-level PA system designed to deliver exceptional sound clarity and even coverage throughout the stadium. We collaborated closely with manufacturers Electro-Voice and Dynacord, chosen for their extensive experience in stadium audio systems and their involvement in other major UK stadium projects.
Our key contact, Richard Leadbitter of Keenfinity (EV/Dynacord), began by conducting a detailed survey of the stadium. This enabled their technical engineering team to produce an advanced 3D acoustic model, which formed the basis for an optimised loudspeaker design. The model allowed for precise speaker placement and ensured a balanced sound profile across the entire stadium, with minimal variation in volume between seats.
The Installation Process
Our installation team proceeded to install 24 clusters of two Electro-Voice EVF loudspeakers across all four stands, using a range of access equipment to reach the stadium roof heights safely and efficiently. Each stand required its own variation of the speaker model, with tailored dispersion patterns to suit the throw distance and stand size. These high-powered units were selected specifically for their proven performance in large stadium environments, delivering a full dynamic range and ensuring every announcement and piece of music is reproduced with precision and impact.
Each 1200-watt speaker cluster was individually wired back to an amplifier rack located within each stand, with all amplifiers linked via a fibre network infrastructure, back to control equipment and audio sources in the press box within the main stand, to provide a robust and scalable audio backbone.
The improved audio quality not only enhances stadium announcements but significantly improves the matchday atmosphere - particularly during build-up to kick off and post-match celebrations - creating an exciting and immersive fan experience.
Throughout the installation process, our team focused on minimising disruption to stadium operations. Working closely with Peterborough United’s Head of Operations, we completed the installation efficiently and to the highest technical standards.
Controlling the System
To control the amplifiers and loudspeakers, we drew on the expertise of Jack Spenn from Audio-Technica / Allen & Heath. An AHM matrix was selected for its flexibility and proven suitability in live sound environments.
Our commissioning team designed a custom 10-inch control panel with a graphical user interface tailored to the club’s operational requirements. The interface was created to be user-friendly, while still offering advanced functionality, including: Individual volume control for each stand, A master stadium-wide volume control, Input-specific volume control, including pitch-side DJ input, wireless microphone, and audio player.
Additional functionality was integrated into the system design, such as automatic ducking of music whenever the wireless microphone is in use, and an emergency mode which instantly mutes all music sources in favour of safety-critical announcements via dedicated emergency microphones.
This approach ensures intuitive daily operation while maintaining full control and safety compliance for matchdays and other live events.
Jack Spenn, from Audio-Technica / Allen & Heath said the following about the project:
“Modern stadiums present incredible challenges, but from the outset it was clear that AV Xpert had the vision and trusted the technology. Standards for stadium audio systems are rising across all levels of football, and the solution deployed at Peterborough United puts them in line with much larger venues, setting a strong benchmark for fan experience.”
Continued Support
As part of our partnership with the club, AV Xpert will be providing full support for the system over the next three years, including an on-site callout warranty in the unlikely event of equipment failure. In addition, we have implemented remote system management, enabling us to securely access the system to perform diagnostics, run tests, and make configuration adjustments as required.
On matchday mornings, our team can log in remotely to conduct a pre-event health check. This includes playing a test tone and monitoring amplifier metering to confirm output to all stands. The amplifiers also provide advanced speaker monitoring, allowing us to detect faults such as incorrect impedance, cable damage, or failed drivers. If any issues arise, we are immediately notified, ensuring rapid response and continued reliability of the system.
The Results
Our PA system has improved the stadium audio and helped to transform the matchday atmosphere. Stadium announcements are now clearer than ever, ensuring fans can hear every message.
Beyond announcements, the PA system is optimised for high-quality music reproduction, making pre-match build-ups, half-time entertainment, and post-match celebrations truly special.
Nick Yeandle, Founder and Director at AV Xpert, said:
“As a company with many lifelong Posh fans among our team, this project is incredibly special to us. We’re not just installing a sound system - we’re helping shape the matchday atmosphere for thousands of supporters. We are absolutely delighted with the results, and we’re proud to stand alongside our local football club.”
Peterborough United Commercial Executive, Horris Jones, welcomed the partnership:
"We are thrilled to welcome AV Xpert to the Peterborough United family. Their expertise and reputation in the AV industry are second to none, and this partnership will bring a real benefit to our supporters through the installation of the new PA system.
This is another important step in our ongoing commitment to improving the matchday experience at the Weston Homes Stadium, and we are excited to work closely with AV Xpert over the next three years."
